UFC 98 Countdown-Evans vs. Machida

UFC 98 is finally here, and we are going to get to see the dream match-up between the guy who everyone loves to hate (Rashad Evans) and a Karate master who people want to see get more exciting. Nobody has been able to hit Machida, so it’d be interesting to see whether Rashad can hit him. We all know Rashad is elusive as well, but not as elusive as Machida. Griffin was hitting Evans in the first two rounds before losing, so can Rashad take a shot from Machida?

I do think Rashad has a chance but he should not be a favorite in this fight. Rashad has beaten guys who stand and want to bang. Machida is a true Samurai, and I can’t pick against him. Win or lose, it’ll be an interesting fight.

Point of No Return: Liddell vs. Rua

Liddell vs. Rua is going to be the point of no return for both fighters. Liddell has lost 3 out his last 4 fights. And Rua couldn’t even put away Coleman until the veteran was too tired to stand up. The loser of this fight will probably have to settle for tomato cans in the UFC or just leave the company. I still give Liddell a big edge here. Rua is a great figher but he shows up as he did against Coleman, he’ll get murdered. And I can’t see him knock out Liddell. Unless, he watches those videos and learn from Rashad and Jackson. It’s sad that these guys are not fighting for the title but they haven’t been good enough. And the loser will probably have to leave town!

Keith Jardine vs. Jackson Review

I am not sure what to think of this upcoming fight. I do believe that Jackson deserved to get a title shot as he was the holder and defended it more than once. But he had to go through Silva and has to beat Jardine to get a shot at Rashad. Having said that, Jackson should walk through Jardine.

What I am looking forward to is the Shane Carwin – Gonzaga fight. This is the coming out party for Carwin. If he wins, he is the heir to the throne. If he loses, he’ll probably have to start from scratch. Carwin won’t get a title shot even if he wins. I believe the winner of Mir – Lesnar will have to fight the winner of Nog – Couture. But Shane will be one fight away. I want to go with Gonzaga, but I feel Shane will knock him out in the 2nd round.

UFC 95: Sanchez – Stevenson Preview

UFC 95 is going to be one great card. Sure. I would rather see Sanchez vs. Penn but Stevenson is a good fighter and should put up a good fight. Damien Maia’s fights are all a pleasure to watch, and this next one shouldn’t be any different. Here is the preview of this event. It’s going to be exciting. What are your picks?

BJ Penn – GSP II Promo

The UFC hype machine is in action again, trying to hype up the highly anticipated Penn – GSP fight even more. BJ is talking a lot of crap before this fight, but I hope he can actually back it up and lose in a respectable fashion. I think GSP will probably knock him out but we shall see. I am also interested to see whether we can see Machida vs Penn 2, but that’s highly unlikely at this point.

Affliction 2: Fedor vs. Arlovski

Affliction 2 is finally upon us, and we are going to see some very good fights. I really don’t mind seeing Affliction succeed, but the product has a long way to go to get to the level of the UFC. My pick? Fedor. I haven’t seen anything from Arlovski that Fedor can’t nullify. They said Sylvia will have the height advantage, but after the fight he was completely battered (and we are talking about 36 seconds). Fedor will probably take him down and submit him but we shall see.

UFC 89: Leben Bisping Promo Video

So we finally are here: UFC 89, Leben vs. Bisping is tonight on SpikeTV (if you are in the U.S.). It’s going to be a good night. The fight I am looking forward to is Jardine Vera. But I think Leben will probably pull it off against Bisping. Vera should be able to survive Jardine, but with Keith you never know.

UFC 91 Teaser: Lesnar vs. Couture

Finally, this piece of video that aired during Fight Night is up. I like the teaser as it makes the fight seem like a very big deal. And I like the marketing aspect of it as well: Heavyweight Champ vs. NCAA heavyweight champ. It’d be very interesting. By the way, you may still be able to get UFC 91 tickets on major ticket sites.

UFC 88: Liddell, Franklin Return

UFC 88 is almost upon us in a year that has been very exciting for the MMA fans to say the least. But with Affliction II, Jackson, Anderson, and Brock returning later this year, there is plenty of life left in this year as far as Mixed Martial Arts is concerned. UFC 88 previews are up now. I’ll unveil my picks later.

UFC 88: Breakthrough – Liddell vs. Evans

The first promo for UFC 88 is up as Liddell will be facing Evans for possibly the right to face Forrest Griffin. I personally think Machida should get the first shot but I doubt Griffin can actually defend the title. He got extremely lucky with Jackson, and it’d be tough for him to hang with Liddell or Machida. Having said that, I look forward to seeing what Rashard has to offer. I hope it’s more than a couple of timid rounds.

Brock Lesnar vs Heath Herring, UFC 87 Fight Promo

It’s finally up. I don’t think these guys are doing a good job hyping the fight but it’s good to hear that they believe it’s a dangerous fight for Lesnar. I think this is really the last chance saloon for Brock. If Brock loses, he is pretty much done in UFC. Probably a 1st knockout for Brock or a submission for Heath. Can’t see this fight going to the 2nd round, just can’t!

UFC 87 Promo Video + Predictions

UFC 87 is coming up and we have a bunch of good fights on our hands. There are basically three cards that I am looking forward.

GSP vs. Fitch: Fitch is good but GPS is better. It’s as simple as that. Fitch can definitely cause an upset if GSP underestimates him, but somehow I don’t think that will happen.
Lensar vs. Heath Herring: The moment of truth for Brock. He has worked with world class Jujitsu coaches for this match, but Herring doesn’t have that kind of fight in his arsenal. So if Lesnar jumps on him and avoids putting down illegal punches, he should win. Lesnar is a big dude and is more speedy than even the great Fedor. Having said that, he is a little bit green in the MMA world, so here is hoping he wins and furthers his stay in the UFC. Or maybe he could lose and go to Affliction and fight Fedor? Now Fedor – Lesnar will be a draw (though it will end with a submission).
Huerta vs. Florian: I am going to go out on a limb and pick Florian to win. I want BJ Penn to wipe the floor with Florian, but I guess there is a good chance we will see BJ Penn – GSP in the future, so it doesn’t matter who wins here as long as they don’t spoil the party.

Anderson Silva vs. James Irvin Preview

A summary of the video that was played last night on Spike TV about the fight night card. James Irvin seems to believe that he has a legitimate chance to upset Anderson Silva. Unless he throws a lucky punch or Anderson is not on his A-game, this fight should end with a win for Silva. James Irvin barely made weight today (after two tries), so he got lucky there.

Rich Franklin Reviews Anderson Silva vs. James Sandman Irvin

If anyone knows about fighting Anderson Silva, it’s Rich Franklin. Having lost twice to Anderson, Franklin knows that Irvin is a heavy underdog against Anderson Silva. Can Irvin surprise Silva? He might. But this is Anderson’s fight to lose. If he fights the best he can, I don’t think Irvin has much of a chance.
